These little festive candles are a beautiful addition to any home at Christmas time. They're such fun and easy to make - add your own decorations, fragrances, glitter and more!

A festive, vanilla-scented Christmas candle - perfect as a gift for family or friends!

Hey there, blog friends! Thanks for checking out my Christmas Candles. I saw the idea for these in a magazine - they are so simple to make! You can create some lovely, unique presents for family and friends by simply varying the fragrance and decorations (there's no reason not to adapt them for other occasions too). Here I've included a Christmas ribbon, some decorative holly and a gift tag, so they'll look festive and jolly on anyone's windowsill!

Method

In order to get started, choose the jar you'd like to make your candle in - any size and shape will work. Old jam and chutney jars are perfect for this (I often find they have more uses than you think, so never throw them out!). Make sure your jar is clean and then use a sticky glue dot to position a candle wick in the middle.

Next, pour some soy wax flakes into an old mug and melt them in the microwave (soy wax flakes are preferable to paraffin, because they release fewer toxins when the candle burns). I'd recommend using between one and a half and two full jars of flakes for each candle, to make sure you don't run out when filling the jar. Stir your preferred essential oil into the melted wax - the more oil, the stronger the fragrance - and pour it into the jar; you can also mix in some glitter if you'd like to give the wax an extra sparkle! Leave it to set and...voila! Your candle is finished - all that's left is to decorate in your personal style.

Quick tip: after pouring the wax in, place an old pen or pencil on either side of the wick, balanced horizontally on the top of the jar, and sellotape the ends together. This helps to anchor the wick in place and stop it leaning to one side as the wax sets.

Materials:

- Soy wax flakes

- Candle wicks

- Essential oil fragrance (I used vanilla, but do try experimenting!)

- Clean, empty jam jar

- Old mug (for use in the microwave)

- Glitter (if desired)

- Decorations as desired

- Scissors, pens/pencils and sellotape.

I sourced my wax flakes and candle wicks at a reasonable price in Hobbycraft, but these can be found elsewhere too.
